How are these 3d pieces created?

3D printing is at the heart of the production process, from start to finish. To start, the city models are carefully developed on a computer, using advanced software and data mining processes. Then these models are optimized for 3d printing - this includes constant testing to maintain proper tolerances so that the detail never suffers on the final piece. This is how we’re able to print an exceptional level of detail.

How are these 3d pieces created?

We have several 3D printers in our studio - these take the computer model and print it using a non-toxic, biodegradable plastic filament. The printer lays this plastic down in very thin layers, from bottom to top, until the piece is finished. Then the piece is mounted, framed, and carefully packed for shipment.

ABOUT THE MAKER

JOHN CAMPBELL

Designer, Digital Fabricator, Maker. I want to share these passions with you through this collection while celebrating the beauty of the city skyline. About a year ago I released the Chicago Collection and it was a resounding success. We received so many requests for new cities that recently we launched the Manhattan Collection and have more locations waiting in the wings. All the pieces in the collection are made in our Chicago studio equipped with several in-house 3d printers and are generally made to order. I’m so happy to be able to bring a small slice of the city into your home, and I hope you enjoy the pieces as much as I have enjoyed creating them!
